Prayer is the key to achieving B.I.G. things in 2015!
We all have dreams. I’m not talking about the dreams that you have at night. I’m talking about the thoughts and desires that are so much a part of you, you seemingly can’t get away from them. It’s that hunger and drive inside of you to be something more than what you are right now; to do something far beyond what you have accomplished at this point in your life. It’s the thing that you love to talk about more than anything else. Even if you don’t talk about it much, it’s still got a hold of you more than you have a hold of it.
While our life’s dreams should inspire us to be and do more, they often lead to frustration when we don’t know how to transform them into reality. One of the key reasons is that God is often left out of that process. We hear people tell us to “dream big,” but if your big dream is not connected to God plans for your life, your efforts will be futile.
A few years ago when I wrote my first book God gave me an acronym for the word B.I.G.: bold, innovative, and God-inspired. The difference between a big dream and a B.I.G. dream is a focus on a life of significance versus on what the world would call success. This is not about having a bigger house, car, or bank account. A B.I.G. dream is about having a God-sized impact within the circles of influence that He has assigned to you.
Embracing this is extremely significant in this season, because most people are focused on planning and positioning themselves to have a better year than the previous one. If you want to have a year of significance, then you must go to the Source of B.I.G. dreams which is God. And we connect to Him through prayer.
Prayer is the impetus for revelation. Prayer is the inspiration for imagination. Prayer is the incubator of B.I.G. dreams! Prayer creates the spiritual atmosphere for us to receive God’s ideas and plans for our lives. Too many people walk around unnecessarily confused, or chasing things that God never intended for them to have, or trying to get purposeful things done by their own will power that will eventually fail.
Unfortunately, for many Christians prayer is an underrated resource as it relates to pursuing their dreams. Prayer is not just telling God what we want. Prayer is more about hearing what God wants and how we are to align our lives with His plans.
B.I.G. dreams are based on hearing from God and receiving His instructions. Jesus taught us to pray, “Thy Kingdom come and thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” Therefore, as we consider our plans for 2015, our focus should be on how God wants to expand His kingdom in the earth and what are our individual and collective roles within His strategy. Our prayers then should be focused on asking God how do we do what He’s blessing versus asking God to bless what we want to do.
Praying B.I.G. prayers moves us beyond setting resolutions and positions us to get major results, not from our own strengths, talents, or intellect, but instead by God’s power. When we focus on hearing God in prayer we can rely more on the grace of God and depend less on the grind of our own efforts. Only then are we guaranteed to have a year where we experience the real, tangible benefits of B.I.G. dreams.
