The Promises of Prayer

prayer 1

If you listen to the news on any given day, stories of violence and injustice fill the airwaves. A quick scroll of the latest headlines on a mobile device is often enough to convince us that prayer is needed. While there are times when we’d like to run under the covers, wave a magic wand, and wish away all the problems of the world, we must stand firm in our faith.

When we pray, God not only moves in our lives, but also in the world in which we live.

As we pursue the presence of God, we can take hold of the promises of prayer.

1) He hears us.

When we seek the face of God, we can rest assured that the Lord hears our prayers. The Word of God says in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that as we humble ourselves and repent of our sins, He will listen to our cries.

2) He heals us.

Prayer involves more than just “rolling out” our requests to God.

While the Lord hears our personal prayers, He is concerned about our surrounding cities and communities as well.

As we pray with an attitude of submission, He will shower us with His grace and bring restoration to our lives (2 Chronicles 7:14).

3) He pardons us.

We never have to come timidly into the presence of God. As Hebrews 4:16 states, we can approach God with boldness and assurance. The result of openly and honestly sharing our heart with the Lord is that in return, He gives us the mercy and grace we need for our circumstances.

4) He protects us.

Who can stand against the protection of the Lord? He promises to be our place of safety as we remain in His presence. Regardless of the news reports, work drama, financial frustrations, and family concerns, the Lord won’t allow these things to overtake us. In the midst of the triumphs or challenges of life, He will be our safe haven (Psalm 91).

5) He guides us.

Just as the Lord answered David’s prayer in Psalm 32:8, we also have the assurance that He will direct our path. When we regularly pray, we become more aware of how the Lord speaks to our hearts. In turn, we are able to discern the path that He is leading us to pursue. He will guide our lives according to His will and purpose.

What should we do when pressure and stress surround us? How can we fulfill His great purpose and destiny for our lives? It all begins with Jesus.

As we learn to take our eyes off of what is happening around us, something wonderful begins to happen: we discover Jesus. We realize that He is more than enough. We recognize that He is more powerful than what is happening in our world. He will surround us with his beauty and fight for us. Let’s decide to seek Him and experience His promises today!

What promises have you obtained through prayer?
