Tonight, Trinity Broadcasting Network aired a special Praise the Lord episode hosted at their Atlanta, GA studio by Apostle Guillermo Maldonado, pastor of King Jesus International Ministry (Ministerio Internacional El Rey Jesus), featuring Pastors Paul and Jo Naughton hailing from the U.K., Pastors Neville Goldman and Nicky Van Der Westhuizen from South Africa, Apostle Wanda Rolon from Puerto Rico, and Dr. Joel Casoria from ATL along with special worship by King Jesus’ New Wine Worship Team. Apostle leads pastors the fastest-growing Hispanic and multi-cultural church in the nation as well as heads up the vast, international, New Wine Apostolic Network. What a power-packed evening!
TBN, as you know, is a well-established name, if not the most established name, in Christian television. However, these days, more often than not, people–saved and secular alike–smart at the thought of Christian television. With the fundraising, name-dropping, (interesting) storytelling, and so forth, Christian television at large, seems to be less and less a matter of relevance to those truly pursuing Jesus. This is by no means to single out TBN. You can probably think of at least one or two other Christian channels you’ve become familiar with over the years.
Perhaps we grew complacent. Perhaps we like having church with ourselves, for ourselves, by ourselves. Perhaps we simply lost sight of the Great Commission and intentions of Jesus. But if that is the case, then tonight signals a departure from the accepted, apathetic norm.
Never in my life have I seen a TBN host or guest throw caution and ratings to the wind, go into the audience, and start laying hands! Never, that is, until they gave Apostle Maldonado a microphone and the liberty to host the show.
This great apostle, true to the nature of the calling and election, has been “called to take God’s supernatural power to this generation” and he’s fulfilling this mandate with great fervor! How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news! How lovely the hands of those who flow in divine healing! How benevolent the heart that accepts the Father’s call to minister to the lost and hurting sheep!
In this one episode, the viewing audience experienced backs being healed, necks made unstiff, deaf ears opened, and several words of knowledge! And this does not even include the testimonies of those who did not get a chance to testify as well as those healed and encouraged by watching online and through television!
The power of God was present to heal! This is the Great Commission, or as Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke would call it, the Supreme Commission:
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature… And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen. (Mark 16:15-20)
With threats of plague in the form of Ebola, incurable diseases, random terrorist attacks, increasing Amber Alerts, earthquakes in diverse places, economical and racial unrest, and general discouragement, the Gospel of the Kingdom of God–with the demonstration thereof–is exactly what we need to survive and thrive in an increasingly dark world. The world will not fail to worsen. Troubles will increase, the Bible promises us this. HOWEVER, the Bible also promises a vastly significant manifestation of the power of God in the earth!
But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. (Acts 2:16-18)
For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea. (Habakkuk 2:14)
The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the Lord of hosts. (Haggai 2:9 KJV)
If TBN maintains this trend, not just with Apostle Maldonado, but with all who carry the DNA of Heaven–and demonstrate it–I believe that we will see a mighty change not just in Christian television, but in the [American] Church at large. Liberty over agenda, authenticity over motives, demonstration over motivation. It is the love of God shown through His power that makes all the difference!
