Usually when one hears the word “bar,” they think of, well, a bar! But in recent years the word bar has come to mean many different things to the people who frequent them. “Bauble Bar.” “Blow-Out Bar.” “Sushi Bar.” You get the idea. But bars need not only consist of alcohol, jewelry, blow drys, and sushi–they can be perfect for your next event! Be it wedding reception dinner party or church anniversary banquet, selecting one or more of the bars below can be a great way to leave a fabulous impression.
Drinkable Bar Ideas
1) Coffee Bar
Who doesn’t love coffee?? Okay, there are some coffee haters out there, but for all of us coffee mongers, this is the perfect idea. And what’s perfect about this idea is that it can be adapted from events to the office, common areas, and home! You could even combine it with other “stations”!

2) Hot Chocolate a.k.a. Cocoa Bar
(See also 5-8.)
Temperatures are starting to drop, but if you’re anything like me, then you like a good hot chocolate (preferably with marshmallows!) year round. And for all the cocoa lovers out there, a hot chocolate bar would be the perfect addition to your party! You can even have marshmallow decor like this!

3) Fondue Bar
Fondue is a wonderful addition to any party. Cheese, chocolate, whatever is a wonderful way to have your pick of melted delights over the foods you love. If you have a cheese fondue fountain, then best to be lovely little crackers and veggies to dip in the piping fount. If you like chocolate, then strawberries (maybe other fruits?), cookies, and wafers would also be great edible items to christen. Heck, you can even have a cake batter fondue fount if you like!
4) Cheese Bar
Those who are Parisians at heart or at least fond of cheese will appreciate a smorgasbord of cheese from brie to blue to pepper jack and a host of other delectable, international favorites, you can’t go wrong with cheese! And you might as well get just as creative with the selection of crackers and breads as well.
5) Sundae a.k.a. Ice Cream Bar
Lovely for kids and kids-at-heart alike, an ice cream or Sundae station is a wonderful way to give your guests a way to pick and dress their own desserts! Just be sure to think ahead for the sake of multiple hands reaching after, say, the same ice cream cone, cookies, etc. But there are, of course, creative ways to avoid that. *wink, wink*
6) Dessert Bar
If you’re hosting a wedding reception (or vow renewal) and you’re not the biggest fan of a large wedding cake (or more specifically, the cost of the cake), then have a dessert bar or buffet is a great way to let your guests have their [non]cake and eat it too. In addition to or in lieu of cake(s), you can have pies (stylist, Lauren Conrad, and her pal, Lauren Lowstan, baked 300 apples pies for her recent nuptials!), tortes, ice cream (see above), candies and candy bars, cookies, and whatever Wonka-like confections your precious heart desires!
7) S’mores Bar
This S’mores Bar is a wonderful idea particularly for a rustic or Autumn-themed event, for kids and adults. This is also a bar idea that can be dressed up or dressed down to the hosts’ liking. And you can even have marshmallow-themed decor! Very wint’ry indeed!
8) Candy Bar (Buffet)
Candy lovers unite! One at a time and stand in line! That’s what you’ll have to say if you have one of these babies at your next event. Snickers and Milky Ways, Wuthers and Peppermints, Taffy and Jelly Bellies, Gummy bears and dinner mints, and every other kind of candy you can imagine! Lay them out at your very own glorious candy buffet!
9) Seafood Bar
Who doesn’t love seafood? (Unless, of course, they’re allergic, in which case, keep them faaar away from this bar.) Create a foundation and maybe even structures of ice to preserve the food and lay out the crab and lobster, sushi and shrimp, sauces, and more and treat your guests to a proper seafood bar. This would be particularly lovely if you are having a beach or nautical-themed event.
10) Meat Bar
“You don’t eat no meat? Okay, I make lamb.” And chicken. And beef. And cornish hen. And turkey. And ham. And duck. And sausage. Every meat you can imagine can be piled onto this buffet in true Brazilian (or Texan!) style. And you’re feeling super daring, you can let your guests cook the meat themselves!
Like any bar or buffet, this gives your guests the sense of freedom to choose what they would like to indulge in. And if you have multiple food/dessert/drink stations, even better!
