Style Guide: My Six Wardrobe Essentials for Summer 2014

It’s time to nail down your Summer style from head to toe with a little help from your favorite GT style columnist. Summer is officially here and rising temps can prove to be an obstacle when getting dressed. To help you out, here’s a list of my Summer style essentials that are sure to have you looking just as hot as the coming Summer days.

1) Chambray Shirt

The chambray shirt is my absolute go-to for the summer. These tops are amazingly versatile and practical.

I’m constantly surprised at how many different ways you can style a chambray shirt:

  • You can wear it tucked in a pencil skirt
  • You can sport denim on denim style
  • The list goes on and on …

If you don’t have a chambray shirt in your wardrobe, it’s time to make the investment.

2) White Jeans

White jeans are practical, classic, relaxed, and can be sophisticated in a variety of ways. While jeans are always in style, angelic white jeans are especially fresh and uber stylish this summer. White jeans are easy to style for day-to-night and such a great way to embrace your summer style.

3) Kimono

The warm weather layer of choice for me is the swingy, light, and loose kimono jacket. They perfectly capture that effortless look that Summer is all about. So, put away your stiff blazers and embrace the breezy, barely-there kimono in all its Summer glory.

4) Bright Handbag

Bright handbags can make any outfit come to life with little effort.

Bags have become just as much of a statement piece as a great dress, and can speak volumes about the lady carrying them.

So this Summer, step away from your traditional shades of black and brown and find the bright colors that make taking that purse to work more fun.

5) Ankle Pants

The ankle-revealing length of these trousers is great for summer. Ankle pants are dressier than shorts, yet still allow you to give off “Summer”attitude. You can pair them with a tailored button-down shirt for work, or with an embellished tank for weekend brunch with the girls. Cropped trousers come in so many varieties; therefore, it shouldn’t be too hard to find the perfect pair for your Summer wardrobe.

6) Straw Hat

I love a straw hat for many reasons, besides the fact that there’s no cuter way to protect your head from the hot sun. Summer just makes a perfect match for a woven hat, naturally. A straw hat is just a stylish, easy way to bring a vacation, coastal vibe to your everyday attire.

I don’t know about you, but I feel hotter already. Take these no-sweat essentials and step into this new season, making your own Summer statement. See you in the sunshine ladies!
