“President Obama is our president because it was his time. However, President Obama was strategically placed to drive the Church to its knees; to force us to pray.”
This paraphrased statement was made by Dr. Renny McLean some time ago. I believe it is true. No matter how you feel about President Obama, he is our president. And whoever the set man is over our nation, he, his family, and his advisors, need our fervent prayers.
The Importance of Prayer
In First Timothy 2:1-4, the Apostle Paul admonishes us to make “supplications, prayers, intercessions…for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.” Please note that Paul wrote this in the throes of one of the most demonic stretches of leadership with the Roman Emperors who expelled Christians from the Empire, hunted them down, enslaved them to be gladiators, and fed them to lions. I think we can all agree that President Obama is a far cry from that! So why not pray for him to be the best president that he can be—in God?
The Prophet Samuel, the last leader in the dispensation of Israel’s judges, spoke with depth and truth at Saul’s coronation saying:
Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the right way. (I Samuel 12:23)
Even as he was being replaced and rejected as the leader of Israel, Samuel knew the importance of praying for the people and their new king. He knew that in continuing in prayer, it would demonstrate the proper way to support the king and ultimately, the nation. It was, indeed, a “good” and…right way.”
So now what will you do?
Fighting in Congress. Fighting in the House. Fighting over gun laws. Fighting over marriage. Fighting about fighting overseas. Fighting about the continued legalized killing of unborn children in the name of “women’s health.” As you can well see, there is no shortage of fighting in our nation. That is quite obviously not a help to our president. Whether or not President Obama ever becomes a Christian should not be our main concern although it should be our sincere hope. What matters is that righteous men and women surround him. What matters is that his governmental decisions are made from a Judeo-Christian point of view, based on the Word of God, and not a whim or humanist preference. Fighting amongst Christians and non-Christians or Republicans and Democrats will absolutely not help our president—only prayer will.
Therefore, I charge you as Christians, as Kingdom ambassadors, and as sons and daughters of the true and living God to pray for your president! As a child of God you have the power to effect change in our nation. You have the power to be the vessel through which God can change our president, his heart, and his policies.
The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; but the earth He has given to the children of men. (Psalm 115:16)
God created, crafted, and authorized us to rule the earth in His stead, yet without the “effective fervent prayers of the righteous,” His hands are tied. However, through prayer, we take the limits off God and enable Him to do His thing in the world! With all this in mind, I charge you—again—to pray! God is not through with our nation and He hasn’t even gotten started with our president! If you pray, God will hear, and things will change.
